Keep Adult Education Unit in Kingstown
Tue Jul 01, 2014
Editor: Education is very important. The opportunities today for education are very good, as compared to my days when it was limited. The opportunities available for a second chance in education through adult education are commendable. If something should happen that this department be closed, it would be a backward and sad state in this country. Many persons have been helped through adult education.{{more}}
The relocation of the Adult Education Unit office to another location outside Kingstown is a bad move. For when the unit is in Kingstown, it can be easily reached and also many times the unit has to touch base with the Ministry of Education. Thus, when it is placed outside Kingstown, it would make it difficult, due to transportation, to get in touch physically with the unit and also for the unit to physically touch base with the Ministry of Education. It would take more time to touch base between the ministry and the unit.
We have the old Treasury building lying useless, why not fix it up and use it, which would be more convenient to the unit and other persons wishing to do business with the unit. For I know that there are many persons who normally visit the unit on a daily basis.
I pray that some consideration be given to have the unit office placed in Kingstown rather than at one of the resource centres. Failure to properly house the office in a location that is more convenient to the public can give rise to many speculations and can set back the progress of the unit.
Therefore, in this age of education revolution, let everything possible be done to improve chances in every aspect of education, including adult education. Also, it is important that priority be given, in spite of the difficult financial times to this unit and so keep the unit office in Kingstown.
