The recent flooding in SVG

Editor: The recent flooding spoiled the Christmas for many Vincentians. I express my deepest condolences to the many families who suffered the loss of loved ones. Of course, we know that the Nanton family of Rose Bank was the hardest hit and their grief will take long to overcome.{{more}}
This recent disaster shows us how uncertain life is; thus, as a people, we need to be prepared for death, for we do not know what the future holds. Many of us were caught by surprise and so no preparation of any kind was made. We must, however, be thankful to God that many more lives and properties were not lost.
Commendations are in order for those who give foodstuff, water and other supplies to those affected and also to other residents in the case of water supply. It thus shows the caring nature and love that still exists in this country. It was indeed very encouraging to see how quickly many Vincentians came into action and began helping out.
The recent floods showed us how valuable many things are that we waste, such as water which we waste so much, each other and how important each person is and of course, the correct disposal of garbage that we throw in our drains and streams, which aided in blocking them and in the final analysis would have been destructive.
I wish that when life returns to normal that we would continue to work together, regardless of our political persuasion, ethnic colour, educational qualification, status in society and religious beliefs. We are far too divided, but this disaster has brought many together, although there are still many who say negative things politically. This is no time to play politics; so, let us put aside these political differences and work together.
The floods affected both ULP and NDP. Let us thank God for His mercies and for speaking to us as Vincentians. I trust we would, as a people, live more godly lives and continue to look out for each other. Let us not forget to let Christ be the centre of our lives.
To those who lost loved ones, we know it is something had to cope with, but we pray the Lord give strength to you all and may you continue to look up and trust the Lord, for HE never fails.
