Uniting for the good

Tue Jul 23, 2013

Editor: The Vincentian society, quite unfortunately, is plagued with discord in the many churches that exist within this nation’s borders.

Unity, as God requires, has lost its hold upon the lives of the church attendants and Satan, in the place of God, is being uplifted. Yahweh (God), the creator of all, placed men upon this earth as social beings to unite in service to him.{{more}} David shows “behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” – Psalm 133:1. This scripture does not only show the goodness and marvelous nature of godly/brotherly unity in God’s eyes, but also stands as a rebuke to the many professed Christians in our society who fail to come together for the fear of God. In the church too often is unity dispensed with as the church members become dangerously consumed with the issues of position, money, academic achievement and gender. They do not have God at heart and hence indulge in the doctrines of hatred which have become the cause of church division.

Instead of allowing themselves to be so divided, they ought to reject their personal sins and allow God’s Holy Spirit to motivate each to show loyalty to the commandments of Yahweh (God). There needs to be an honest seeking and willingness to love one another unconditionally. They ought to seek God’s face and pray earnestly for a transformed view of one another and ensure that the principles/precepts of God unify them to serve both men and God. The Bible shows how we ought to be towards the brethren. “But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. And indeed ye do it towards all the brethren…”- 1Thess 4:9, 10. When love (GOD) inundates the souls of true believers, there can be no erection of divisive barriers. There can only be unity and strength, since by the entertainment of division both are removed.

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand,” shows Christ in Matthew 12:25.

In addition, this message must never be limited to a certain group of people who are present in this beautiful country. It must never elude us that God desires for all Vincentians to be a part of his church. He wants all Vincentians to unify under the influence of his Spirit for there to be true and lasting prosperity in the land. As worldly occurrences point to the world’s end, there is a stronger demand for a revolutionized understanding of the importance of godly unification. There are far too many instances/cases in the Vincentian society where persons join forces to commit crime and leave the work of national development unattended. Selfishness and laziness have turned their faces away from the concord that exists among some in contributing back to society.

All Vincentians must recognize the need to put aside their petty differences and seek God for changed hearts. Righteousness and goals of uplift should then unify their energies for the advancement of this country. After all, as is shown by the scriptures, “can two walk together, except they be agreed?” – Amos 3:3. The spirit of unity will cause its possessors to form groups and pool together resources to provide food and clothing to the unfortunate. It will drive Vincentians to make strides as a group to raise funds to ensure that their neighbour receives the surgery that he/she so much needs. Indeed, God will be pleased if more truly honest and sincere men group together to obtain uniforms and books to offer to the underprivileged of the nation. He will smile no less at group visits to prisons and hospitals where his word is proclaimed as the hope of the time.

It is for us as Vincentians to put our heads together and join our hands to accomplish God’s will in all things. We must no more live in oblivion to the importance of godly unity. No more must we ignore the call of God to live as he created us to – in unity for the good.
