Teachers call for help
Fri Mar 08, 2013
Editor: To the Ministry of Education, I say thanks for the recent efforts in sending out representatives to help primary school teachers understand the OECS Language Arts Curriculum. However, there are still some differences as to how teachers understand the Language Arts Curriculum to be used. Some teachers would say: “The Listening and Speaking must be used by itself, Reading by itself, Writing by itselfâ; others say {{more}}: “Listening and Speaking, Reading, and Writing, must all be combined in a single Language Arts lesson, whether it be Grammar, Word Study, Composition, Spelling etc.â Thatâs how I understand it too. But opinions among teachers vary.
Â
What I would kindly recommend to the Ministry of Education is this: Please present at least two sample lesson plans for Language Arts as examples in the newspapers and/or on a website that can give all primary school teachers a clear idea as to how to properly use the OECS Language Arts Curriculum. Or two or three sample lesson plans can be sent to the primary schools for all teachers to consider. In this way, all teachers can then understand exactly how to use the OECS Language Arts Curriculum in the correct way. This will ensure that all teachers will be able to use the curriculum the way it is meant to be used. So, Ministry of Education, PLEASE HELP US. Primary school teachers will all be grateful.
