Christians and party politics

Editor: Christians and party politics will always remain a debatable subject. We have seen, in recent times and over the years, persons claiming to be born again who have gone into party politics. History will show us that few have come out clean or untarnished by party politics. We know that many godly preachers became adulterers and corrupt. Many have become arrogant and lost that spiritual touch.{{more}}
It has often been argued that when Christians go into politics and become candidates that they will help to change things and that they will be able to give better representation and offer a different kind of politics, but speaking subject to correction, very little of that, if any, has been reality with preachers and many dedicated servants of GOD when they enter into party politics.
As a Christian seeking political office or if in parliament, would you be able to effectively reach others with the gospel, since those who are not supporters of your party may not want to listen to you, but reject you? Would you be able to unite others, no matter what is their political persuasion and would you be able to represent both those who oppose you as well as those who support you?
Finally, as a Christian involved in party politics, can you honestly say which is a greater service for God, party politics or serving Christ, not as a politician where you can be respected and listened to and can reach others in a more meaningful way, but in helping others socially, financially and spiritually? Which service is better served? And have you prayed about the area of service you so now desire?
For me, serving Christ is far better than party politics. We are to love one another and respect those in authority. So, let us not develop hatred for other politicians, even if we donât support them. Can I, as a Christian, be truly involved in party politics? No, I cannot; serving Christ for me is far better.
