North Leeward children in need of a school bus
Fri Feb 08, 2013
Editor: There is need for transportation for the children in North Leeward. Since the start of this year, children attending the secondary schools of Petit Bordel and Troumaca, as well as those going to school in Kingstown, are without transportation.{{more}}
The government had operated a school bus that used to transport the children to the two North Leeward secondary schools of Petit Bordel and Troumaca Ontario secondary. Since the start of the year, the school bus has not been seen. Thus, it raises the question as to what has gone wrong. It therefore leaves the children to find some other means of getting to school.
Also, there were two buses that used to transport children to schools in Kingstown; one of these buses was the government owned school bus. These buses served good purposes, in that they ensured the children arrived to school on time and from school to home at a reasonable time. Now, since the absence of these buses, the children have to find themselves travelling in other vans. This sometimes can be challenging, since it poses a transportation problem to get into Kingstown, both for the regular passengers and the children. It also poses difficulty in getting home, since the limited number of vans available has to carry both the regular passengers and children. As a result, all are not able to be accommodated; thus, both children and adults are left in town late to be transported back home and sometimes some children find themselves being late for school.
The two big buses that once transported school children to Kingstown offered fares that were discounted. This aided the parents in terms of transportation fares. Now, since they are not operating, it increases the cost of transportation to the parents.
It is my hope that something will be done soon to assist the children of North Leeward in terms of transportation to the secondary schools in North Leeward and also to those in Kingstown. Thank you and looking forward to some positive action soon.
