Something must be done about garbage situation

Editor: Vera-Ann Brereton, Vice President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Association has some very valid concerns. We love St Vincent and spend a lot of time there. As we walk with our Vincy friends, many of them think nothing of throwing wrappers or garbage on the roads, beaches, etc.{{more}}
I bring to their attention how destructive this is, at which many just laugh at me. I have visited beaches where the garbage was so bad we couldnât walk on the beach, so I brought garbage bags and cleaned up the entire beach. I pointed out to my Vincy friends that God has given them a beautiful island and it is their responsibility to take care of it. âIf you abuse it, you lose itâ, a philosophy Iâve used from teaching children responsibility to being good stewards of what has been loaned to us. If there were consequences to these actions (fines?) there might be a change. Nobody likes their wallets touched. But something, somehow MUST be done !! Until then, I guess we will still be coming back…with our garbage bags!!
