Vacation Bible School planting good seed in hearts of children

Fri, Aug 10, 2012

Editor: The Daily Vacation Bible School (DVBS) has been a regular annual feature of the Kingstown Evangelical Church for many years. We cater for children between the ages of four and 17 years.

Some may look at this as relieving parents of the “burden” of having their children idle at home during the summer holidays.{{more}} We see it as a means of providing the children with the spiritual aspect of their development. We teach the Bible – God’s Word – in an easy to understand way.

The challenge goes out every year to our members to be involved in this very important ministry. The scripture “Let the children come to me and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven” is taken very seriously. The members make themselves available to assist in teaching the children, whilst others are praying specifically for this ministry outreach.

Over the years, the local congregation has been assisted by overseas visitors in conducting the DVBS sessions. The daily sessions include worship in songs and choruses, Bible lessons, handicraft, memorizing scripture verses and this year we added cake decorating. We are grateful for the assistance given by all these workers. The Lord be praised for their willingness to minister to the children in our community.

The theme for this year’s program was “The Armor of God,” based on Ephesians 6:11-18. The children were taught the importance of using each piece of armour in their daily lives, especially the ‘Sword of the Spirit – which is the Word of God”.

We look forward to serving the Lord for many more years, as He allows, in this very important ministry to the young children, who are our future leaders. It is our prayer that the seeds planted in their hearts will grow and in turn bring forth much fruit for the glory of God.
