Working hard, is it worth it anymore?

Editor: An award ceremony was held by the Ministry of Education to recognize students who did well in the CXC Examination (congratulations to them); however, others who have done extremely well, like myself, were not recognized for our hard work.{{more}}
These few students who have been awarded, fell into the category to be recognized because they did eleven subjects or more! This made me realize that quantity matters and quality does not! I obtained ten subjects, seven ones and three twos. Thus, I was only one subject away from being recognized!
Well, I must congratulate the ruling Government for their tremendous work in the Education Revolution. They have awarded students over the past years for their achievements. Last year, they awarded students who obtained nine subjects or more. Therefore, I think that they should have maintained that same criteria for this year. After all, eight, nine or even ten subjects is good enough, as long as we have passed all of them.
You worked hard on those endless nights and then, a year later, you learnt that you were just one subject away from getting an award, despite your good grades. This can be very disenchanting. This can cause someone âto go mentalâ and feel low about oneâs ability, which makes him/her decide not to try hard anymore in any other exams, because apparently their work is not being recognized. In addition, this can also result in the students having adverse opinions of the Education System.
Working hard, is it worth it anymore?
Therefore, I am urging secondary school students, if they want to be recognized and awarded for their hard work, to do eleven or more subjects, because if you do fewer, you will not be considered as an achiever! Remember, those in authority have proven that quantity matters and quality does not!
