That May 21st Judgement Day FALSE prophecy

20.MAY.11

Editor: The rise of false prophets is one of the signs that the end of the world is near. While enlightening and warning His disciples of the happenings of the last days, just before He returns, Jesus said, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Mat.24:11{{more}}

About two months ago, I had the opportunity to meet a group of persons who have been vigorously proclaiming that Judgement Day is on May 21, 2011. They claim that millions will die on that day, while the ‘believers’ will be raptured away. This movement (Family Radio) was started with a U.S. preacher, Harold Camping, who once proclaimed that there was sufficient evidence to show that Christ was returning in 1994. That failed and he has continued his falsehood instead of repenting!

An examination of the literature distributed by this group, one will quickly recognise many errors and inconsistencies. The sad and deceitful thing is that a number of scriptures are quoted alongside the errors. Nevertheless, light always exposes darkness, and the Bible texts quoted can be used to expose the erroneous concepts propagated by Camping et al. In one of their tracts, they state, “…Just before the flood Noah was instructed by God that in seven days the flood would begin (Genesis 7:4,10-16). Using the language of 2 Peter 3:8 that one day is as a thousand years, God used Noah, who was a preacher (2 Peter 2:5) to declare that “mankind has seven days or 7,000 years to escape destruction”. Since 2011 A.D. is precisely 7,000 years after Noah preached that warning, God has given mankind a wonderful proof that Judgement Day will occur in the year 2011.”

When one reads the scriptures quoted, we will understand that Camping and his followers are not true and consistent with their interpretation. If we follow their logic, then the 7 days spoken of by God in the text should be 7000 years! But we know that God meant 7 days as stated in the text. Additionally, there is no biblical prophecy to show that 1day=1000 years as a means of calculating prophetic time.

A careful look at 2 Peter 3:8 with all the verses before and after it, shows :

1. God is dealing with scoffers who deny the second coming because to them, a long time has passed since preachers have been preaching and Christ has not yet returned.

2. We must remember the evidence in God’s word to appreciate the surety of his promises (e.g. the flood).

3. What we consider as a long time in our finite measurement of time it is but a short time in God’s measurement of time.

4. God is longsuffering and in His mercy has given man opportunities to repent before he destroys the wicked.

Harold Camping and his followers have failed to meet the biblical standard of prophecy interpretation. May 21st will come and go and maybe another date will be set! Sadly, their message will contribute to the increase of scoffers and will cause many to be further deceived, and, therefore, unprepared for Christ’s coming.

The Bible tells us that “…of that day and hour knoweth no man…”( Mat.24:36). However, we are told how to prepare CONTINUALLY for the return of Jesus Christ. In the book of Mark, we are admonished to “Take heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.” Mk 13:33. We watch by having the garment of salvation (Isa. 61:10). We are called upon to repent of our sins and accept the Gospel of Christ which saves us from sin. This Gospel (living word of God) cleanses us from all sin, making us sin-free; making us live in obedience to all of God’s commandments, including His Seventh day Sabbath Commandment. The scripture declares, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men. Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world…”Titus 2:11-14. Only those who obey God’s instructions will partake of His blessings and will escape the grand destruction soon to come. Only those that “do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates of the city.” Rev.22:14.

Christ has not asked us to set time for His appearing. He instructs us to BE PREPARED in holiness of character ALWAYS.

May 21st, 2011, will pass and Camping’s prophecy will be unfulfilled because it is unbiblical and false.
