We must rebuild with positive energy
29.APR.11
Editor: This country has recently been affected by two disasters, namely hurricane Tomas and the recent heavy rains that caused tremendous damage, mainly in the north of the island.{{more}} Some persons have been expressing their gratefulness to God because there was no loss of life. We can always find reason to be grateful, because if two persons had died, we would have thanked God only two lives were lost and claim that it could have been worse. Whether it deepens our belief in God is not the real issue, but what matters most is whether or not it strengthens our belief in ourselves as a people. We must find the inner strength to pick up the pieces and begin the process of rebuilding.
The enormity of the challenge should not be underestimated. Other countries have endured worse disasters than this, and they eventually recovered. We are no differen, but we have to be determined to succeed.
I listened to persons suggesting varying reasons for this disaster occurring, especially on the Windward side of the island. These are acts of nature and we should read nothing more into them. If this disaster was an act of God, then all disasters are acts of God. We should not allow our thoughts to degenerate to that level, for we would only be encouraging negative thoughts. Once these negative thoughts take hold on our subconscious, the repercussions would be far reaching for us as individuals and as a nation. Our response should be collective meditation on what we want to achieve as a nation. I use the meditation instead of prayer because prayer to many is simply uttering a few words which our subconscious very often does not transfer to the spirit.
We must always remain positive in our outlook, despite the challenges before us. Once we sincerely believe that we will succeed, then success can be the only result.
