Green Party: Child abuse is the tip of the iceberg
12.APR.11
EDITOR: SVG Green Party sees child abuse is the tip of the iceberg of the likely social problems facing SVG, as a consequence of the massive $307 million drop predicted for the SVG economy in 2011.{{more}}
Research has shown that there is a positive co-relation between a countryâs weak economy and the high prevalence of child abuse. The weak economy of SVG has dramatically pushed up the level of unemployment, and many families have no or little income coming into the household. Fathers who are meant to pay maintenance are unable to.
The resulting poverty becomes a factor in the increase of child abuse in SVG. The incompetent ULP regime has substantially weakened the SVG economy since coming to power in 2001, causing much pain and suffering for the poor. The ULP regime has no solution to stop the worrying rise in child abuse.
SVG Green Party is very concerned about the dangerously weak SVG economy and the alarmingly high prevalence of child abuse in SVG. We call on the Commonwealth Secretariat and the United Nations to put forward possible solutions to end the child abuse in SVG.
