It’s child abuse month – Fathers, treat Your gifts well!

08.APR.11

EDITOR: I wish to commend Mr Simeon James who wrote a fine article for Fathers last week, highlighting the need for any negligent father to take up his role in caring for his children, who are gifts from the Almighty God.{{more}}

To all negligent fathers: Do you really know that it is child abuse to neglect caring for your children? Indeed, some fathers can do much more. In addition to caring for their children’s material needs, how many fathers care for their children’s spiritual and educational needs?

Many times, it is mostly mothers who attend PTA meetings at school – only few fathers attend, if any at all in some cases.

Fathers, what are you really telling your children when you are absent continually from PTA Meetings? Fathers, are you saying that your children’s education doesn’t mean anything to you, that only the mother should show interest in your children’s education?

Now that we are in “Child Abuse Awareness” month, why not vow to make a change? Negligent fathers, say to yourself: “From this month of April onward, I am going to care for my children’s needs. I’ll provide money to obtain their food, clothes, shoes, books etc. I’ll teach my children sound moral values whenever I can. I am going to every PTA meeting and show my children that I am really interested in their education. I don’t want to be guilty of “child abuse” anymore. This is my vow and I am going to honour it. (Ecclesiastes 5:4) Yes! I am going to treat my children, my gifts from God, well.”

Yes fathers, say this to yourself, mean it, and best of all, DO IT!
