Let common sense prevail
Editor: Another General Election in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is just around the corner and I expect it to be a very spirited contest.{{more}}
I believe that it is the responsibility of both major political parties, the ULP and the NDP to conduct campaigns with civility and deal with the issues in a way that allows the Vincentian electorate to make choices from an educated standpoint.
However, if the letter under the caption âSaboto, a political invertebrate…â by one Otto Sam in your issue of September 17 is an indication of what is to come, then many people will be disappointed.
In my view, it was a half page of gutter politics – We have passed that stage!!
Whatever are the differences between Mr. Sam and the ruling ULP Administration, that should be dealt with in another forum.
The fact that Sam is or was an educator is also very disturbing to me.
Elections are of vital importance to our country and these self serving personal attacks on other people have absolutely no place in the public debate over the next few months.
Like many other Vincentians at home and abroad, I want the best for my country.
I believe that this can be a very lively campaign season, with the Vincentian public fully engaged.
There is so much at stake!
I appeal to my countrymen to let common sense prevail.
