Pay some attention to the Thomas Saunders Secondary School

Fri, Aug 27, 2010

Editor: The reopening of school is only few days away. I recognize the efforts of the government to make sure that no child is left behind, and also the efforts to upgrade the physical structure in some of the schools. These efforts are indeed commendable.{{more}}

Having a comfortable environment, we know, is important for success; likewise for any school, it is important that there be comfortable classrooms with enough space and proper facilities in order for the children to achieve their maximum potential. Now having said that, it does not mean that if children are placed in the best environment that there will be one hundred percent success. Nor does it mean that the lack of a good environment will mean that there will be little or no success. However, we must all agree that it is important that children be placed in classrooms that are spacious and that the building is kept in a good condition.

The Thomas Saunders Secondary School is one such school that needs some attention. Work we know has commenced on the extension of the school to accommodate more students. It is doubtful that it will finish on time, considering the amount of work that remains. In the meantime, the children have to endure the discomfort of a crowded classroom in some of the forms, namely the form ones. This we know is not a healthy situation, thus making it difficult for learning. One hopes that there would be some physical improvement made to the building before the commencement of the new school term, namely, power washing the building and some proper cleaning. I would also hope that the extension would not take too long in finishing, so as to ease the congested classrooms.

Much more can be said of the building, and others, but I would hope that some attention is given to ensure that schools, including the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, will be comfortable for the children so that they can focus properly and be able to give their best. After all, Education is the key to success.

Thank you.
