Passenger vans need to be regulated and controlled
Editor: While we recognize that van operation in SVG is an important service, there are some areas that need to be regulated and controlled. They are the bus fare, the speed and the loud music in some of the mini vans.{{more}}
There is some irregularity in some areas with the bus fares. For example, from Chateaubelair to Barrouallie, some vans charge four dollars and five dollars to Layou and upwards, while the regular fare to Kingstown from the same location is five dollars. There are other vans that will charge for the same route from Chateaubelair to Barrouallie three dollars and to Layou up to Campden Park four dollars. Certainly something is wrong. There needs to be a settled regulated fare for vans operating on this route.
The speed at which some vans travel and the loud music being played need to be monitored. Even the type of music sometimes played in these vans is many times negative and degrading. After all, the drivers and conductors need to understand that they are doing a business and thus making the passengers happy and safe and at the same time, comfort must be top priority.
Therefore, I appeal to those in authority to ensure that the bus fare is correctly regulated and that passengers are travelling in some degree of comfort and ease.
