Water woes in Buccament/ Cane Grove area
19.FEB.10
Editor: Having left the island several months ago for medical treatment, I returned a few days ago only to be informed that a recent surge in water pressure had damaged the plumbing at many residences in the Buccament/Cane Grove area â including mine.{{more}}
Burst pipes, solar water heater damage, and broken toilet flush mechanisms seem to be the most common complaints. In my case, the pressure relief valve had to be replaced, and a burst pipe underground and leaking fittings on the solar water heater all needed to be repaired or replaced.
Not a day has passed since my return that I have had either no water, or very
little, at some point during the day. During my first two days back, the water meter was screaming and groaning whenever the water was turned off in the house.
Despite numerous phone calls to CWSA, no one seems to have an explanation or be willing to accept responsibility. My real concern is: who pays for the wasted water and costs to repair damaged plumbing and fixtures?
Surely the maintenance of appropriate water pressure is one of the duties of CWSA, and the failure to do so should entail some responsibility for ensuing damage.
