It’s not the end of the world

04.DEC.09

Editor: The referendum is now over and our people must focus on our future as a nation. The majority that voted rejected the proposed constitution and we all have to accept that. However, this is not the end of the world.{{more}} Though we all agree that there is need for changes in the constitution, we would agree that these changes would hardly affect our social and economic development. I believe that no matter what constitution exists, a leader bent on manipulating the system would do just that. Politicians are the same wherever you go. Some are just worse than others. I do hope that we have learnt our lessons individually and collectively.

I do not know when the divisiveness of our people will end but it is certainly generating a lot of negative energy. Maybe this is what politicians thrive on. The problem is that it retards development and results in a lot of negatives in our society that are mostly manifested in the form of crime. You may ask yourself, what is the relationship between both? The fact is, crime is as a result of negative thoughts, and thoughts are forms of energy. Energy can change from one form to another. Just as chemical energy can change to electrical energy, negative energy generated by negative thoughts can be manifested in the form of criminal activity.

We must each do an inward search of ourselves and see what sort of energy exists within us. Let us stop seeing others as the problem and see what is our contribution to this negative energy. We must recognize that we all have a role to play in the development of this country. Therefore, the views of all must be respected.

Let us not allow ourselves to become further divided. We are on a mission to build a great nation. However, there cannot be a great nation without great people. Therefore, we must not be distracted from the task at hand and we must keep reminding ourselves of our mission. The world has not ended. Therefore, we have to continue searching for solutions to our problems.

I hope that persons have learnt from their mistakes. We cannot continue in the same manner as a people and expect everything to turn out good. It was Albert Einstein who said: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”
