SVG really needs the international airport

14.AUG.09

Editor: Like many Vincentians who have emigrated, air travel is essential to our maintaining significant links with our homeland.

Objection to the construction of an international airport is shortsighted and self-serving.{{more}}

I for one am thoroughly disappointed with the ULP government. I was one of those who travelled to St. Vincent to hit the campaign trail to speak on behalf of the need for change. But since then I am confirmed in my view that many politicians only want power for themselves and will do anything to retain power.

That said, I support the airport construction. No country can hope to develop without modern communications: air, land, sea, and technology (By the way, the

airport will not bring the boost to the economy it could without an infrastructure of good roads throughout the island).

So, no matter what your political leaning, think of the next generation of young people and their economic welfare. When you do, you will see the value of an international airport.
