Education Revolution needed for Constitutional Reform, too!
24.JULY.09
Editor: The present ULP government of St.Vincent and the Grenadines and its supporters continue to champion the âEducation Revolutionâ as a milestone in their political tenure. Indeed, it has its benefits, but the drawbacks and stresses associated with it should never be overlooked. It is my call, and I wish that the same amount of vigor, enthusiasm and effort that is placed in the Education Revolution Initiative is put in the constitution reform process.{{more}} Let children, teenagers and adults be educated in the Highest Law of the land.
Just about 45 days (half of the time given) remain before the second reading of the Bill, and I am still not aware of any organized and earnest move, neither on the part of the government nor the Opposition, to seriously educate our people on the changes in the proposed constitution (Bill). Radio stations like Cross Country and Nice Radio must be commended for their efforts (through a number of call-in programs) of seeking to enlighten their listeners on constitutional issues. Again, let me say that we are at the stage where understandable information and reasonable explanations should be given. Just saying vote ânoâ or vote âyesâ is unsatisfactory and backward, to say the least.
I join with many Vincentians in sending out a clarion call to the government, opposition and all other capable citizens to give meaningful education to the people.
