The inalienable right to private property

03.JULY.09

Editor: As I sat and listened to the radio program ‘Issues at Hand’ two Sundays ago June 23rd 2009, I was appalled and very dissatisfied by the way in which the two moderators handled the program, as they deal with Constitutional matters, particularly the Advertisement on page 15 of the News newspaper dated Friday June 19th 2009. {{more}}

It was very sickening to my mind as I listened to these so-called intellectuals carry on with their one-sided and twisted reasoning. A caller called in and stated upfront that she (the caller) did not have much credit, but would like to make a contribution to the program and if they (the moderators) would allow her, she can make the contribution and then listen off air. To my surprise, the caller was told to go and get credit and call back, which in my view is very unprofessional and shows little interest in what the caller has to say; Callers were constantly cross talked while making their points, not being given a fair chance to finish making their statement.

A simple word such as ‘ignorant’ used to describe ones lack of knowledge or education on a particular subject is a common thing among all, and all are subject to correction, yet, when someone used the word in reference to the two moderators with an objective to enlighten, they took offence. Sad to say, there is gross ignorance among many so-called intellectuals today concerning the Rights of Man to be INALIENABLE. One just has to be willing to put away foolish pride and preconceived ideas when weighed by the evidences in scriptures for them to understand the real truth of the matter.

God created us as human beings with three fundamental Rights: (1) The right to Religious Liberty (2) The right to Life (3) The right to Private Property.

These rights were not given to us by any man or government, but they were endowed to us by our creator, the one who in His infinite wisdom designed and created us, thus these rights are a part of our genetic blueprint which cannot be separated from us. Let us zero in on the last right listed above (The right to Private Property) since one of the moderators were of the view that it is not God given. It is only obvious that if one can see that the right to life is God given, then the right to private property will also be a God given right since it is a life necessity for human survival and happiness.

God is the one who gave to Adam and Eve the Garden of Eden to be their home, that’s private property given to them for their survival and happiness (Gen. 2: 15, 16). After man sinned, God commanded man to work hard to earn private property (Gen. 3: 19). Here is a counsel given by the wise king Solomon: “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” Pro. 13: 4. “Rights are meant to preserve human spiritual and physical life. The Right to religious liberty preserves spiritual life, and ultimately physical life. The Right to life and to private property preserves physical life. The highest and ultimate function of Rights is to preserve life.” A Human Rights Catechism. By: Nyron Medina.

One of the moderators said, in his opinion, “Because we were not born with private property he doesn’t see it as God given.” The fact is God created us with the necessity to acquire private property for our sustenance; we are created free and born free and this freedom affords us: “The pursuit of just economic rewards for our labour.” God has promises to create new heavens and a new earth for His people and even there (In His new creation) the Right to private property will be for all, only because it is a natural part of our design as human beings.

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy… And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65: 17-24 (KJV).
