Are we better off financially than seven years ago?

03.OCT.08

Editor: Politics seems to be the lifeblood of this country. Everywhere you go, persons want to find out how are things politically, and if you think the Prime Minister and his Unity Labour Party will win the next election. I tell them the electorate will determine that.{{more}}

Everywhere you go, the talk is things hard, Government mek so. One question I want to ask is: Are we better off financially now than seven years ago? Oh yeah! But most of the time the answer is NO! Who should we blame? After all the promises that were made, all dem politicians are to blame. Persons like Hans King, Burns Bonadie, Elson Crick and OB Browne will say it is a global problem, so why do we complain? But who feels it could tell you the cry of this country. I want to know if the basic needs of the country are being met. Ask the poor, there is where you will find the answer. Value Added Tax; higher oil prices; cost of living; Vinlec killing poor people; eating rice and chicken back is bad for the Wellness Revolution.

I am making an appeal to the Prime Minister to make things work for the poor. But some might say the only time poor people exist is election time. Let me remind today’s politicians that poor people are thinking differently these days. Stop treating us like voting cows. We demand more respect. Let me put out a notice to the ULP: Ministers Slater, Browne, Sayers, Thompson, Beache & Rene Baptiste. Persons from your constituencies are complaining that nothing is happening and its time for something to be done. Prime Minister, you are in for a surprise. make a change or live to regret it. Don’t close the stable after the horse is already out.
