Charge parents for abandoning kids
05.SEPT.08
Editor: Street children are fast becoming a menace to society. It is sickening to read about and see street kids.
There will always be debate as to why these kids live on the street and we may blame the authorities and turn it into a political football. However, the kids are out there on the streets needing a home.{{more}}
These kids I know have parents. It is true that many fathers have abandoned their responsibilities to their children for various reasons. However, it is unthinkable that a mother who carried that child for nine months and would have experienced the pain of bringing a child into this world, would like the father abandon such a child.
Efforts should be made by family service unit to find out from these kids who are their mothers at least. Then their parents or mothers should be contacted. They should be held accountable for their child living on the streets.
To me it is a crime for parents to abandon their child and thus causing that child to live on the streets. I am sure that many persons expect the government to take care of these children, but the question is: âWhere are their parents?â They should be held responsible and if possible charged for abandoning their child.
It is not the responsibility of the government to care for these children without first getting in contact with the mothers at least. The mothers or close relatives should have a heart of love and take the responsibility of these children rather than letting them sleep on the streets.
