Vision of a new SVG promising, positive

22.AUG.08

Editor: The visions of a new reality presented a couple weeks ago were so positive and promising that I’m sure it provided the hope and motivation that many needed in the aspiration of a new St. Vincent.{{more}} While much of the vision may be criticized by others as an ideal or an improbable utopia, Vincentians should find comfort in the recognition that they are not solitary individuals burdened by a “reign of political terror” but rather, they are members of a cultural family who are aware of the ails that afflict our nation and are now ready to do something about it.

I found the piece truly prophetic. I have long been afraid that the current direction of crisis in our country will lead to social unrest to the point of revolution against an insensitive government. Malcolm X advocated change “by any means necessary” but this vision did a good job of balancing caution with anticipation, rebuke with advice, and disapproval with mobilization. I endorse the author’s point that “Vincentians can make 2017 arrive long before that time”; in fact, I’m banking on it.
