Time for Eustace to remove himself as leader of the Opposition party
15.AUG.08
Editor: The recent return of the official Opposition to Parliament, after neglecting to do the peoplesâ work for four consecutive meetings, further supports my persistent calls (for the last two years) for Mr. Eustace to remove himself from the leadership of the opposition NDP.{{more}}
It also now puts into question the ability of the NDP to ever function effectively in opposition or government in SVG.
In February, Mr. Eustace and his parliamentary colleagues claimed they WILL NEVER sit in the same Parliament with Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves, whom they claimed since that time was unworthy to lead the country because of sexual assault ALLEGATIONS. Since then, Mr. Eustace and the rest of his opposition stayed away from the House. Indeed, they abandoned their role as official opposition to the government.
What was the purpose of the NDPâs boycott of Parliament?
Even when Court rulings supported the decisions of DPP Williams and the learned Justice Thom, Mr. Eustace and his mouthpieces continued their rants against the credible, visionary and progressive nation builder, Ralph Gonsalves. Their foolish actions seemed to include a flurry of letters on the Caribbean Net News website by cowards who penned under assumed names. Their aim appears to be to destroy SVG if the people wouldnât allow them to run their Hairouna.
While Mr. Eustace and his colleagues showed their political ineptitude as Her Majestyâs Loyal Opposition, Prime Minister Gonsalves and his able Cabinet Ministers continue to take SVG (positively) forward with their Education Revolution; infrastructure development; magnificent foreign policy development; improved housing; increased opportunities for young people – education and jobs; better care and attention for the elderly; the repairs and construction of schools and police stations nationwide; the completion of a jet airport at Canouan (Grenadines) and construction of an international airport on mainland SVG; a diagnostic health centre in Georgetown, etc. The biggest âRalph Haterâ would readily admit that De Comrade (Dr. Gonsalves) has moved SVG forward since coming to office in 2001.
In short, Dr. Gonsalves has governed like no other SVG leader (including the father of our nation, the late Chief Robert Milton Cato) has.
On the other hand, Mr. Eustace and the NDP have offered only hollow criticism to governmentâs programmes…no alternatives… No solutions to what they perceive to be bad governance from the ULP. They hate our close relationship with Cuba and Venezuela, while those generous nations – our brothers and sisters – continue to assist the ULP government to improve the lives of our people.
The NDP is rudderless and stalled in mid-ocean. Mr. Eustace is surrounded by viragos, yahoos and rabble-rousers who appear to be clueless when it comes to governance in a post-colonial economy.
For the NDP to survive, it needs an infiltration from some in the so-called Movement for Change. Jomo Thomas could give good assistance to Dr. Linton Lewis in resurrecting Sir James Mitchellâs NDP, and providing some semblance of good opposition in SVG.
âStraight Upâ once more: Eustace MUST go!!!!
