Who will lead the ULP after Dr. Gonsalves, Baptiste or Francis?
10.AUG.07
Editor: ULP as a political party under Dr. Gonsalves eventually became a force to reckon with, not like when it used to be led by Sir Vincent. Prime Minister Gonsalves demonstrated that he can lead, and lead he is doing.
Thereâs no doubt that things are happening, but not every policy of his ULP I agree with.{{more}} He did mention in the past that he would like to be Prime Minister for two terms; that tenure is coming to an end. My choice to replace him is the Minister of Culture René Baptiste. From what I have observed she has the ability, and must be given the chance.
Tell me which other member of the ULP on the surface seems to have the qualities to lead? First, I have to find out if there is any friction for leadership. During the last election, every effort was made by certain persons in the ULP so that Senator Francis could have become an elected member, that did not happen. Why didnât we see that kind of effort put into Minister Baptisteâs campaign?
Is it true that Senator Francis called a meeting of CDC and himself? Who is the Minister of Culture? Is it true that the Chairman of CDC who happens to be the Minister of Cultureâs brother-in-law threatened to resign? I know that the constitution says that one could be appointed Senator and put to run a ministry. That gave him an opportunity like any elected member. Is that why there seems to be a problem in the ULP? Itâs bothering me! Iâm wondering if itâs creating any problem for Prime Minister Gonsalves. I just want to be advised.
The next election is approximately three years away, Dr. Gonsalves and his ULP have to start putting things in place for changes. Persons like Minister Sayers, Slater, Browne, and Senator Francis should not be considered as candidates for 2010/2011 election…they have failed! The Prime Minister should be a candidate but not as leader. If Minister Baptiste is not given the leadership, she will lose to Senator Cummings and remember Dr. Gonsalves, you said Senator Cummings will never win. You better consider giving Minister Baptiste a more permanent role in the ULP. Appoint her as Minister of Works and Transport.
Why does it seem that Minister Baptiste is being sidelined? Do the other members feel threatened by her or is it the Old Labour they are trying to keep out?
One might ask why I am lobbying for Minister Baptiste. It is because she has the ability and it is time for fresh leadership.
I will like my thoughts to be considered. One day the readers will say I am right.
