Is Ralph truly cleansed?

According to a story on page 12 of the Searchlight of May 25th, since his vehicular accident our Prime Minister is a changed man, he “no longer holds malice”. Immediately I thought that Junie Bacchus would get back his job, Jomo would be reinstated and Dr. Kenneth John might get a “look in” maybe a board chairmanship, as “together now” would really begin to self-manifest. Yes, I can hear you cursing, “Cox is a damn ass! I thought he had more sense than that.{{more}} He should know this thing ‘bout Ralph changing is nothing but holier-than-thou grandstanding.” Whatever you thing, I still believe Ralph is intrinsically a very good man. I believe he will one day see he was called to be more of a Moses and less of a King Saul hunting David. Call me what name you will, it’s my conviction that he knows that power used for selfish, destructive, vengeful and vindictive purposes, is nothing but self-destructing ignorance. And like Renwick Rose I know Ralph is intelligent, alas some intelligent people are prone to act stupidly.

Many have blamed our bitter political divide solely on Ralph. While Joseph tries to defend him Eveready Goebbels rants and rages on in the lynching chamber. The “Nicest” voices declare him the devil reincarnated. And, never mind the blood thicker than water saying, it’s normal for tea, breakfast and dinner in heaven to finish with a call for the casting out of the ULP devils, Ralph and his imps. And Mathew (a one time Ralph disciple and MNU high priest/evangelist), having put his finger in the wound in Ralph’s palm and his hand in his torn side is now Doubting Thomas numero uno. He insists that based upon the shark/Barracuda theory he must be given the benefit of the “doubt” as to who is the true Ralph. With names like Mathew and Thomas it’s easy to see why many believe that his mouth is bible.

Then the non-partisan few, the likes of The Man Age, Jomo Thomas, Bassy Alexander and one Richard Cox regularly subject Ralph to serious cross-examination. He hates their “dancing,” preferring instead the praises of the hypocritical breadfruit-mentality parasites on his gravy train who murder him cloak and dagger fashion. But whether screamed from the lynching chamber, robed in holy breakfast, propagated through barefaced “senatorial” lying on the Cuban people or disguised in picong, diplomatic and intellectual query these are voices who refuse to recite the “How great thou art” some say is his absolutely necessary ego nourishment.

And many claim (not without basis) that he brought this upon himself. Some say he so loves to be hero-worshiped that anyone not supportive of the personality cult will be reduced to an Orwellian Winston Smith. They say Jomo’s case is the classic example for whatever he might have done wrong did not merit such sweeping judgement. I wish to commend and thank Jomo for showing such maturity by refusing to join the hate crowd. My view is even if Ralph were the Macbeth they all claim it would do no good to follow in his murderous path. But I know that Ralph is not and there are lots to prove this.

PR is his bosom buddy, working hand-in-glove for the good of government and nation. PR, the “Cocobay” who had warned, “The Comrade doesn’t like criticisms” and had promised to use every one of his political skill to keep him out of the Financial Complex. Forgiveness was also extended to Carl Joseph who Ralph claims is the only man who tried to jail him. Carl who Mitchell refused to take as AG on TV in the Fletcher case, taking a white man instead, was made Senior Magistrate. Shallow was mercifully returned to his proper station, primary school. Dougan got magistrate work, Jerry Scott got help with medical bills while Kingsley Layne and Linton Lewis “are eating fire” that they never sought or accepted the Comrade’s blessings. You see now why I consistently refute the argument that Ralph is vengeful and vindictive? Yes, he has faults but there is a lot of good and kindness there too.

And as if to buttress the truth of my position, Ralph announces he has no malice, he hates no one. Amazingly no one paid much attention, but if according to his detractors he is the chief hate-peddler (a terrible lie) in our politics; then with this change in him things should get better. But action speaks louder than words and Ralph is a fancy talker. It will be interesting to see whether the hangman’s noose waiting for Gobbles, Doubting Thomas and Junior who stopped “back us” and now “backs them” among others would be untied. Would the names of those who simply disapproved of the Tobago Cays deal now be removed from the terrorist list? Will the Comrade accept that many who question him are but patriots who simply want the best for SVG and indeed for him as our leader?

According to the Searchlight his words are, “No one is great enough to make me malice or hate them. I would be destroying the good in me.” Profound thoughts indeed especially in this time when there is so much hate towards him by some, which he seems to confirm was reciprocal, (Searchlight reports him saying he no “longer holds malice”). I hope for the sake of our country and indeed that of his own soul, he is cleansed of hate and now “have love for all” including the “Judases,” doubting Thomases, Gobbles; his ignorant frankness, the NDP spin doctors, The Man Age, the picong master and “this dancer with some residual feelings for the NDP.” Searchlight recently carried a picture of him with Bassy, and there you have it, these flitting moments why he still inspires me with great hope.
