Mas Bands operate under the poorest conditions – band leader
Leader of the Nelson Bloc Mas band, Alvern Cadougan has made it known that mas bands are operating under bad conditions.
“ We operate under the poorest conditions in this country, as in run down buildings without proper facilities, except for two mas bands who have a place to call home,” stated Cadougan, who was the representative of the Carnival Bands Incorporated at the media launch for Vincymas which was a cruise along the Leeward coast onboard the Ambience, and organised by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC).
“ …this is not to say we are not searching for our own place, but we are hoping for this year, we can have a signed document from the government for a place to call our own,” Cadogan told the gathering of carnival makers, organisers, and media practitioners among others.
“We produce the best of the best for Vincymas, even if we are operating under the worst conditions in SVG. We love the art form, and we love to see Vincymas on the world map as the best festival in the Caribbean,” Cadougan stressed.
