Leacock seeks Taiwan support to establish Constituency Development Fund in SVG
The New Democratic Party (NDP) administration is pushing for the establishment of a Constituency Development Fund and has discussed the idea with the government of Taiwan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Disaster Management and Immigration, St. Clair Leacock, said at a media conference that during his visit to Taiwan last month, he renewed his call for constitutional reform and strengthened constituency financing following high-level talks with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te.
Speaking about the meeting, Leacock said he held discussions with President Lai Ching-te, who welcomed the Vincentian delegation warmly and expressed interest in deepening cooperation between the two countries.
During the engagement, the deputy prime minister said he highlighted the NDP’s push for a Constituency Development Fund, describing it as critical to improving representative politics in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). He said that the initiative forms part of a broader effort to better align ministerial responsibilities with constituency-based representation.
