Government says students not returning after studies is worrying
There is a worrying trend in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) where students who leave these shores to pursue studies overseas are not returning, creating a deficit in critical areas of development.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Digital Transformation, Senator Lavern King, spoke on the issue during a press conference at Cabinet Room on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
She said that during a recent trip to Taiwan, discussions were held on education and scholarships, with focus placed on providing more scholarships in innovation and digital transformation with a mention also of pharmacology.
“In addition to that, we recognize that one of the difficulties we’re facing is in so much as we’re providing scholarships to our nationals, there seems to be a worrying trend at this time as it relates to their returning home,” Senator King said.
