US Coast Guard demands ID from Vincy fishers at sea?
MEMBERS OF THE US Coast Guard have reportedly recently stopped Vincentian fishers at sea demanding to see their identification papers to ascertain they are indeed fishermen.
That information was made public by Opposition Leader, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves on radio, where he noted that the incident occurred on March 10, 2026 and that the scared fishermen spent a long time explaining to the US coast guard officials that they do not carry identification documents when heading out to sea unless they plan to stop for fuel in a neighbouring island.
Speaking on his Wednesday morning programme on March 10, 2026, Dr. Gonsalves was also critical of Prime Minister, Dr. Godwin Friday saying that he had so far not been sufficiently assertive to obtain answers from the US administration regarding the military strike in Vincentian territorial waters in February in which a St Lucia fishing vessel and its occupants were destroyed.
