Retired Anglican Priest on Canouan laid to rest
RETIRED PRIEST, Fr Frank Garraway, who died at his home in Canouan on January 28, 2026, as buriedon Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Diocese of the Windward Islands said in a release in which it expressed being saddened by the death of the Cleric. The burial follows the morning funeral Mass at the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Canouan.
The Diocese in a release in which it expressed sadness at the passing of the Cleric, said Father Garraway was born in Greiggs on mainland St Vincent on November 30, 1941 to Charles Nero and Melita Garraway. He attended the Canouan Government School and was employed as a clerk of works and time keeper in Canouan after leaving school.
He studied for the Priesthood at Codrington College, Barbados, and was ordained at the St. George’s Cathedral, Kingstown, as a priest on December 15, 1985.
Following his ordination, Fr Garraway served mainly in the Southern Grenadines in Canouan and Union Island. He was the first person from Canouan, and from the Southern Grenadines to be ordained as a Priest in the Anglican Church in the Diocese of the Windward Islands. The Diocese said Fr. Garraway was a member of the Canouan Sailing Club and was well respected in both Canouan and Union Island.
For many years he traversed the waters between Canouan and Union Island to serve the people there.
“He was dedicated to his ministry as a priest, and went beyond the call of duty as he responded to the Spiritual and other needs of the people in the Southern Grenadines.
“The Diocese has lost a devoted priest.” Fr Garraway is survived by his wife, Sylvia and six children, other relatives and friends as well as the congregations of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church Canouan, and St. Matthias Anglican Church, Union Island.
The Diocese’ release said that Fr. Garraway will be the first person to be buried at the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican ChurchYard Cemetery in Canouan.
