New Administration plans to spread out cancer screening
THE GOVERNMENT HAS promised to implement screening and support this year for breast cancer, cervical cancer, as well as prostate and colon cancers.
These screenings will take place at all primary health centres across St Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday has said as he presented his government’s 2026 National Budget.
This year also, government intends to begin reducing its reliance on Cuban doctors, with the start of a three year phase out of Cuban doctors as District Medical Officers.
The prime minister announced that four medical officers will be recruited this year, to help address the language barriers and reduce the cost of foreign staffing. Cuban doctors in St Vincent and the Grenadines, who buttress the local health system, are not exposed to a period of orientation to learn English on arrival in SVG.
