Speaking during the budget debate on Thursday, February 1, 2026 Senator James argued that the administration’s decision to cancel or defer several flagship infrastructure projects represents more than just fiscal adjustment but a strategic withdrawal that compromises the long-term growth potential of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
He highlighted that the current fiscal package fails to introduce any significant new growth drivers, relying instead on “controlling and dispensing scarcity”. The Opposition Senator contended that for a developing economy to thrive, the budget must serve as a catalyst for expansion rather than a tool for contraction.
