Health Minister equates Mental Health Centre to a jail

MINISTER OF HEALTH, Wellness and Energy, Daniel Cummings, has made a passionate plea on behalf of persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines who are living with mental health issues.

Making his contribution to the 2026 Budget debate on Wednesday, February 11, Minister Cummings said “ we must not heap scorn, or look down on persons who have mental health challenges”.

The minister also questioned whether or not patients are given the right medication when they at the Mental Health Centre at Glen.

“Taking a mentally ill person to Glen is like confining them to a prison,” Cummings, who is also the MP for West Kingstown said.
