Minister says more people are applying for firearm licenses

MORE VINCENTIANS are applying for firearm licenses, even as the Minister of National Security St. Clair Leacock says there are certain weapons he thinks should not be in the hands of citizens.

“…one of the things that strikes me at the Ministry of National Security is the amount of people who want to apply to Major for gun licence, and when you have a gun, you always looking for a chance to use it,” he stated.

“You tend to escalate rather than de-escalate.

But it also could be an indication of how many people feel uncomfortable and insecure in the society that has been developing a crime culture,” the Deputy Prime Minister said on NBC radio on Wednesday, January 29, 2026.
