Dr. Gonsalves responds to Major Leacock’s ‘No relevance’ comment

OPPOSITION LEADER, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has swatted Deputy Prime Minister Major St Clair Leacock, over remarks he made on air to the effect that Dr. Gonsalves has no relevance. “Grow up nuh! …just grow up. You’re 70 -something years old, man…. Heavenly father, grow up…grow up…, Gonsalves said on Star Radio on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Earlier that day the Deputy Prime Minister on BOOM FM, was responding to a question about US deportees posed by the host of the OMG programme. The host prefaced the question with a comment that then Prime Minister Gonsalves had stated months earlier that he had received a request for St Vincent and the Grenadines to accept US deportees, and whether the Deputy Prime Minister was aware of this.

“I am not going to give…that gentleman relevance, thank you sir, no, no, no, no, not him…” minister Leacock said in part in response.

Dr. Gonsalves during his appearance on radio on Monday also declared, “You will hear me in the Estimates, St Clair Leacock. Well, not so much the Estimates… in the Budget as to what we had done for the police… and I’m hopeful that you will be able to add some improvements.
