PM Friday pays tribute to Dame Susan, welcomes new GG
Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Godwin Friday, delivering remarks at Tuesday’s swearing in ceremony of the new Governor-General, also paid glowing tribute to Dame Susan Dougan, the former office holder. Prime Minister Friday commended Dame Susan for what he described as her “enduring and outstanding” service to the nation. He expressed the gratitude of a thankful nation for her years of dedicated public service and extended best wishes for good health and success as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.
Welcoming the new Governor-General, Stanley John, Prime Minister Friday described him as a distinguished son of the soil whose career has been marked by excellence, integrity, and professionalism. He highlighted Governor General John’s decades of service as an accomplished Barrister-at-law and King’s Counsel (KC), noting his commitment to upholding the highest standards of the legal profession.
The Prime Minister also reflected on Governor General John’s contribution to nation building through public service and politics, describing him as a man who has consistently given his best to his country while remaining true to his principles, family, and values. He noted his personal relationship with the new Governor
General, describing it as a long-standing friendship built on mutual respect, wisdom, and generosity.
Dr. Friday expressed confidence that the new Governor-General will serve honourably and faithfully as His Majesty the King’s representative in St.Vincent and the Grenadines. He assured the nation that the new Governor General’s deep love for country and commitment to service would guide his tenure as Head of State.
The Prime Minister also extended thanks to the Governor General’s family for their support, acknowledging that the responsibility of the office is shared and that their encouragement would be vital throughout this new journey.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Friday also noted that the installation comes at a time of renewal and optimism, following the recent general elections which delivered a clear mandate for change and progress. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to governing with respect, unity, and resilience, pledging to fulfil the mandate entrusted to him by the people.
Reflecting on the start of the new year, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of hope, possibility, and collective effort in advancing the nation. He expressed confidence that the strength and support of the Vincentian people would enable his government to achieve meaningful progress for all. (API).
