Former Miss SVG and educator writes children’ book on Hurricane Beryl
VINCENTIAN WRITER, educator, and 2005 Miss SVG, Casynella ‘Nell’ Cyrus has written and self-published a children’s book entitled, ‘A Girl Who Made It Through the Storm’, in order to celebrate the resilience and hope of Vincentians, particularly those in Mayreau, who triumphed over Hurricane Beryl.
Cyrus, who is originally from Mayreau, told SEARCHLIGHT that she experienced the storm first hand on the Grenadine Island on July 1, 2024.
She said the book was written from the perspective of her 11-year-old niece, who emerged as a victor in the storm, with the assistance of her courageous grandmother.
“…the story is important, because it’s a story of hope, it’s a story of courage, it’s a story that shows resilience, and it’s a story that basically illustrates and highlights the notion that children go through these storms along with adults.”
