Deputy Prime Minister says violence goes beyond politics
RECENTLY APPOINTED Minister of National Security, Major St. Clair Leacock, says the crime situation in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), goes way beyond politics, and in many instances, speaks to the breakdown in family and civic society.
Speaking at Government House on November 28, one day after the New Democratic Party (NDP) defeated the Unity Labour Party (ULP) in the 2025 general elections, and four days before he was sworn in as Minister of National Security and Immigration, Major Leacock said going back to the family being the basic unit of society, the nation can begin to solve some of the problems that it has been encountering over the years.
“…and that’s where our social system begins to break down, and the deviants come- with the breakdown in family,” Major Leacock told SEARCHLIGHT, while noting that the homicide that took the life of Micah Patterson, a 34-year-old farmer of Texier Road, Layou, on Friday, November 28, 2025, was not a good way to start off a change in administration.
