Layou man caught with gun, 30 bullets in Walvaroo, jailed
A Layou man will spend the next three years and three months of his life in prison after he was caught in a vehicle in Walvaroo with a pistol, and 30 rounds of ammunition.
Ashroy Patterson, 25, alongside three other men, appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Colin John, on November 10, 2025 where they were charged that on November 7, 2025 at Walvaroo they had in their possession one black Polymerso pistol, make and serial number unknown without a license; and 30 rounds of .9mm ammunition without a license issued under the Firearms Act.
Patterson pleaded guilty, while the other men denied the offence. However, they were all remanded in custody after Prosecutor Renrick Cato informed the court that he will be proceeding against all of them.
However, when the three men who denied the offence reappeared in court on November 17, the matter was withdrawn from them, and Patterson was sentenced.
The facts are that on the date in question, PC 1090 Williams, PC 98 DaSilva and PC John were on duty at Roseau, Sion Hill, when they received information about a rental vehicle.
