Engineer Lenski Douglas praises new port
Over the implementation period of the Kingstown Port Modernization Project, EC$135 million was directly retained in the local economy.
Also, cumulatively, more than 500 Vincentians had the opportunity to gain direct employment with the contractor over the past 42 months of its construction. Thirty-one of them were female, and almost 45% of the workforce on the project were locals.
These statistics were given by engineer and Project Manager for the Kingstown Port Modernization Project, Lenski Douglas, on Saturday, October 25, 2025 during the official opening of the new facility.
Douglas also stressed that the strategic objectives of the Modern Kingstown Port were clear from the start: improve infrastructure and working conditions; stimulate economic growth and trade; support livelihoods and reduce poverty; and enhance safety and climate resilience.
“Three of these four objectives have been achieved. With the operations commencing, economic and trade impacts will follow in due course,” the engineer and project manager said as he gave an overview of the project.
