Civil war in Venezuela a problem for SVG says PM Gonsalves
A civil war, or any war in Venezuela will not only be problematic for the Nicolas Maduro-led nation but will create serious security concerns for countries in the region including St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsavles has stated.
On September 2, this year, US President, Donald Trump and military personnel there, released a video of a bomb strike on an alleged drug boat off Venezuela. The strike is alleged to have killed members of a Venezuelan gang transporting drugs. Officials have never identified who was on board, and since then more of these strikes have reportedly killed 27 people, including two Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) nationals on October 14.
The USA has since established a massive military presence near the Venezuelan coast and in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) which includes destroyers, submarines, nuclear submarines, fighter jets, and troops. Meanwhile several regional governments have condemned the US strikes on the alleged drug boats, while protests have been held in at least one Caribbean nation.
