Health Psychologist advises Vincentians to get medically insured

AS BREAST CANCER Awareness Month nears its end, Health Psychologist Jozelle Miller, is advising Vincentians to get medical insurance to ease the financial challenges that may incur with a diagnosis, and to support patients who have already been diagnosed with cancer.
Miller is a Health Psychologist within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and is also the founder of SCORCH Cancer Support Foundation, which aims to support cancer patients and their families. She also founded, and is the Chief Executive Officer of The Valeo Experience, which is a company that provides psychological consultations and care for children and adults with mental disorders, and emotional and behavioural challenges.
Dr. Miller, who told SEARCHLIGHT about the importance of regulating one’s emotions and thinking logically, even while feeling to act impulsively about a particular matter, said that when people hear the word cancer, “the big C,” they feel anxious and scared. Despite this, Dr. Miller is imploring Vincentians to check their breasts while they’re in the shower, lying on their beds, and while they’re looking in the mirror.
“Statistics show that one in eight women develop breast cancer and it is so important for our little girls…to not just put on the pink because it is pretty, but put on the pink in recognition of persons who have survived breast cancer…” she said, adding that wearing pink also helps young women to be aware that they must also take care of their breasts as well.
