Urban transformation to follow Kingstown Port opening
Minister with responsibility for urban development, airports and seaports, Senator Bernarva Browne, is looking forwards to the start of much bigger things in the capital, Kingstown, once the Modern Kingstown Port is opened in a week’s time.
She said the start of operations at the modern Kingstown Port is “phase one” of what will become an “urban renaissance”, as funding has been arranged to move the Grenadines Wharf and schooner facilities to make way for hotels and other structures for a range of activities in the capital.
The senator, who also holds the portfolios of Energy and Grenadines Affairs, was speaking at a press conference on Monday, October 13, 2025 organised by the administration of the port that is currently in operation.
The opening ceremony for the Modern Port will be on October 25, 2025 to celebrate “Vincy Pride” and the hard work that was put into the establishment of the facility.
“The opening of the modern port and the establishment of the Modern Port Operating Company(MPOC) represents one of the most transformative milestones in our country’s maritime history,” the senator said on Monday.
