Canadian/Vincentian receives top Music recognition
Zacary James, who is a part of the Melisizwe Brothers, has received the SOCAN award, a move with which he is said to be thrilled.
The brother of Seth and Marc James, who together form the growing musical unit, Zacary was rewarded by SOCAN- the ‘Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers’ of Canada with the Young Canadian Songwriters Award.
SOCAN, a non-profit organization that represents and protects the rights of more than 185,000 music creators and publishers in Canada and worldwide.
Zacary, like his other two siblings, was born in Canada to Vincentian parents.
Responding to the award, Zacary is quoted in a release on his behalf to have said, “I am truly humbled and grateful to receive this award”.
“This recognition is a tremendous validation of my work, and it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of using my experience to pour back into the next generation.”
He noted that the award is part of a wholesome movement of the three brothers who are ensuring that they too build their brand, while advancing emerging Vincentian talents.
“This past Summer I had the privilege of serving as a programme leader at the Gold Mind Vocal Recording Camp. The camp’s mission is rooted in the belief that every young voice deserves to be heard and nurtured, so this award is a testament to the power of that mission, and I am committed to continue to use my platform to support and amplify voices of others,” Zacary related.
He said they plan to do more as St Vincent and the Grenadines possesses an abundance of untapped natural musical talents.
