Murray’s Village man dies over a year after being shot
Because of a common law principle called the ‘year and a day rule’ that is used to limit homicide charges if death occurs more than a year and a day after the injury is sustained, a local family may never get justice.
This law is expected to come into play as local law enforcement looks into the death of Murray’s Village resident, Enrique “Crash” McClean/King.
McClean/King died on Friday September, 12, 2025 at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).
On June, 16, 2024, Zeno “Sarge” Lee, Ronald “Pliers” Millington also known as “Soap up”, and McClean/King, were hanging out with friends at the Waterfall Bar at around 4.30 p.m. in Murray’s Village when a lone gunman rushed into the bar and shot Lee and McClean/King.
Millington ran, jumping over an embankment into a river, breaking his leg. Lee, 22, died on the spot, and McClean/King, who had scuffled with the gunman, was shot in the right side of his right chest, and on his right arm, but did not die. He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the MCMH and survived, but was crippled. Millington was also taken to hospital with a severe fracture. He also survived.
All three of the men who were injured in the June, 16, 2024, incident have died, albeit in different circumstances, but with the possibility of their deaths being linked.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, Millington, 40, could not run from a gunman as he was still using crutches to help him walk. The self-employed resident of Murray’s Village was shot multiple times in the head, around 9:25 p.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer (DMO), as concerned villagers looked on. He was this country’s 50th homicide for 2024, and at that time, the fifth person killed in the Murray’s Village/Paul Over area for 2024.
