Authorities lambasted for neglect of the SHESO’s pan yard
THE PROTRACTED DELAY by the relevant government agencies in repairing the pan yard of the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra (SHESO), was lambasted by the chairman of the SHESO,Warren Knights, and current representative for East Kingstown, Fitzgerald Bramble.
The pan yard, located at Sion Hill below the hard court, suffered extensive damage in 2024 with the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 1.
Promises to have the facilities repaired have not yet materialised, and both Knights and Bramble used the platform on August 31, 2025, at the Graduation Ceremony of this year’s cohort of the SHESO Summer training programme to highlight the woes of the community.
“2024/ 2025 has not been an easy year; it has been a difficult and challenging year for Sion Hill Euphonium. Since Beryl …destroyed the roof of the hard-court pavilion… every time the rain comes the water continuously comes through the flooring, flooding the whole downstairs where we practice and it has been very difficult to practice down there,” Knights stated.
“In fact, this year for the first time, we have moved the Summer programme under these tents.”
