Dr Linton Lewis, proudly celebrating his son’s medical achievement
Lawyer, Accountant, and former politician, Dr Aron Linton Lewis, is celebrating his son’s achievement as a medical doctor following his successful completion of medical studies in Cuba, under one of numerous scholarships granted by the government of that Caribbean country to the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). A proud Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT that while his son, also named Aron Linton Lewis, had met the academic requirements for a scholarship, he is grateful that he was in fact, granted one.
“He got it on merit, but I don’t want to say merit alone, one is grateful as well. To say you got it on merit, I don’t think that is sufficient, you could be very good at what you do and still, for one reason or another, it wasn’t granted to you. They could have said it is Linton Lewis’ son, and even if he’s good enough you’re not going to give it to him…I am grateful, very grateful,” Lewis said.
On July, 24, 2025, Aron Linton (jr)was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Medicine graduating from the Latin America School of Medical Sciences (ELAM). As a student at Julio Trigo Lopez Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba, the senior Linton Lewis related that his son “performed remarkably well throughout the entire course, achieving an outstanding grade point average overall, and an excellent result for his final medical assessment examination”. The young doctor was one of nine Vincentian students who went to Cuba in 2018 to study medicine, having, at age 20, graduated from The UWI Cave Hill Campus with an upper second class honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry. He was awarded a scholarship by the Cuban Government in conjunction with the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to pursue medicine, an opportunity the young Lewis quickly embraced.
Lewis, senior, is upbeat about his son, currently on a brief rest at home, along with other professionals in the medical field, being able to contribute to developments in the health sector at home and mentioned the Acute Referral Hospital, currently under construction at Arnos Vale.
