Post-Beryl income support to continue into August – PM

THE GOVERNMENT has dispersed almost EC$30 million since January 2025 in assistance to households in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. This, according to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves who said last week that the government is committed to providing direct income support for vulnerable Vincentians.

Speaking on July 21, 2025 at the National Insurance Services (NIS) conference room during the official launch of the Beryl Emergency Resilient Recovery Project (BERRY), the Prime Minister said 5660 households have already received monthly income support payments of EC$600.

“That’s a big, big number,” Dr Gonsalves stated. “These are heads of households, people who are truly in need, and this is what government is about, providing support when it’s needed most.”

The Prime Minister revealed that the list of recipients has continued to grow, with projections indicating the number could rise to 5960. He, however, noted that the list expansion cannot go on indefinitely, and added that many people are receiving assistance through different programmes.
